Training is offered to sighted persons wishing to become Certified Braille Transcribers. Classes begin each Fall and run for about 6 months. We meet one evening a week for 2-1/2 hours. The class is tuitionfree, and all materials and equipment are provided.
Considerable time must be spent outside of class doing homework and studying the lessons. Certification is earned through the Library of Congress upon submission and approval of a trial manuscript. (Library of Congress/National Library Service: www.loc.gov/nls)
We expect a reimbursement for this training in the form of volunteer transcription of assignments through our office or through the Communication Center at State Services for the Blind. (http://www.mnssb.org)
